How to live a balanced life

Dear readers, hope you all had a relaxing summer and now everyone is back to their fall routine including our kids. Being in Education, my work revolves around kids, including students and my own teens. Going back to work after a break and trying to get back to routine is difficult for everyone, especially children. It can also be a stressful time for many. In today’s post I write about 7 things you can do to try to live a balanced and peaceful life.

Disclaimer: These tips are my personal opinions and experiences, and in no way reflect professional answers.

Introduction and background:

What is a balanced life?

We all lead a life where we try to balance our role in family with the roles in society. Many of us try to find a balance between work, home, social life, kids, spirituality and civic duties. With working full time, tending to kids at home, taking care of elderly family members, finding inner self and peace, we are all in this journey of finding a balance. Many times we tilt towards one side or the other, but the key is to pause and acknowledge the many responsibilities all of us bear. Students’ main role may be to get good grades but they may be working part time to earn some extra money, a full time working mom may be trying to give her 100% to her baby who may be under the care of a nanny or an education center, a dad working from home may be juggling picking and dropping off kids while the mom takes care of home and her traveling job. The most important thing to realize is that each one of us is trying our best to do our best.

Read on my 7 tips about how to live a balanced life-

  1. Treat everyone with love, respect and kindness

Knowing that everyone is in their own journey, the first and foremost thing is to to never judge anyone else or compare yourself to anyone. You can never put yourself in other’s shoes or know the state of mind of others or know what is going on in someone’s life. So love, respect and show kindness to others around you, and it will come right back at you.

2. Let it go. Forget and forgive

Learn to forgive yourself first. Many times we make mistakes, but it is the learning that makes all the difference. Be humble and accept yourself with your faults. Make it a habit to let go of small things, because they may cause unnecessary stress and anxiety. Know that things are not always in your control; the best thing you can give yourself is grace. Learn to forgive and slowly you will learn to forget small episodes that may keep you awake at night. By forgiving and moving on, you are doing yourself a favor which will help you live a balanced and peaceful life.

3. Live each day and moment as they come. Do not wait for perfect moments, instead make the present as perfect as you can.

Living in the moment, waiting for small miracles to happen in your life, can bring joy and balance. Living in the past or in the future can bring momentary joys but can also lead to unnecessary sorrows, so try to enjoy the present as it is indeed a gift to yourself. Be hopeful and positive and believe that good things are coming your way. You just have to believe and half the battle is won. Change your attitude and bring gratitude and humility in your life.

4. Accept happiness and struggles as part of life. Do not be too happy or too sad. Learn to live in balance.

This a tough one for me. As humans it is our nature to be happy or excited about good things in life. But to realize that good and bad go together, up and down are part of life and some crises are inevitable in life leads to reflection and acceptance of the truth of life. Struggles make us stronger only if we learn from it and not give up. With grace and support, bad times will pass and good times will come.

5. Take breaks in life to pause, reflect and be grateful

6. Feed your spiritual self by taking the journey of self- discovery and self- realization

Being a spiritual person myself, I find inner peace by acknowledging the Supreme Power and knowing that I am not alone. Whatever religion or beliefs you follow, go deeper to understand how we as human beings can get the spiritual experience to make your life balanced and focused. Do not hesitate to reach out and learn more. Or self-discover your path and destiny.

7. Find your support system

Remember you are never alone. Surround yourself with people who care for you and love you, no matter what. We are social beings and being part of a community gives us focus and direction. Learn to lean on people who help you grow. Growing your civic duties may help you live a life filled with humility and balance.
