10+ ways to not give up in life

Life has its ups and downs, joys and sorrows, laughter and cries, and many things in between. No one’s life is perfect and when life throws you down it is obvious to feel upset. The most important thing is not to stay down, but to get back up. In today’s post I share 10 ways to never give up in life.

There are many times in life when we are so wrapped up and busy that we forget to enjoy the small things. It is so important to pause and enjoy moments as they come. When we are able to make beautiful memories, we can always look back and cherish those moments even in our difficult times. We all have had situations in life out of our control, events that break us and hurt us, and days of hopelessness and despair. But we should never give up! Never. We have to remember that there is always sunrise even after the darkest night, and rainbows after heavy rains and gloomy weather. There are small things we can do to never give up, and make them a part of our lives. These are small mind set changes and habits, which can give us hope and stamina to continue. So read on about my 10+ tips to keep going, no matter what life brings your way.

10 ways to never give up in life:

  1. Find joy in all that you do

Joys are always found in small things. Enjoy the small daily things before they pass you by and learn to find joy in all that you do. You may read this earlier post about 20 things that make me happy. Happiness is a state of mind! It is not how much you have but rather how you feel about how much you have that can make you feel content, happy and fulfilled. Joy can be found on a daily basis – we do not have to wait for special occasions. It can be spending time with family, being thankful to God for His blessings, taking out time for self care or doing something good for others.

2. Have a positive mindset

Positivity or having a positive attitude is when you count your blessings by looking at what all you have in your life and not the have-nots. According to numerous studies, having a positive attitude makes us optimistic, kind and compassionate towards others, helps us live a happier life, and keeps us going in life. 3. Make goals and take things one step at a time

Life with goals give us purpose, and hope towards the future. Anyone can make small goals to accomplish, and follow their passion. Making SMART goals is not only helpful, but also gives a direction and motivation to strive to do our best and keep going. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time bound goals help you live your life with zeal and enthusiasm.

4. Remember this too shall pass

Nothing in life is permanent. Things come and go, and change is the only constant in our lives. Always have faith, and remember that this too shall pass. Just like good times do not last forever, in the same way the bad times will also pass by. We only need to have the grace to keep going and keep our strength in hard times.

5. Make beautiful memories to live for

Memories give meaning to life. You can always make beautiful memories in the present by living in the moment and enjoying life as it comes. Pause to smell the roses, enjoy the sunshine and live life to the fullest. Positivity keeps us going and memories remind us to believe in the good times yet to come.

6. Surround yourself with people who care and remember that you are never alone

Human beings are social animals and we can not live on our own islands. We need people around us- people who genuinely care for us and wish the best for us in any situation. Remember that you are never alone, and always keep company of people who strengthen you and surround you with hope and ambition.

7. Take breaks

Taking breaks and pausing in any situation is very helpful. It gives us time to self reflect and builds stamina as we come back and look at it with a different angle. Breaks give physical and mental rest, and helps clear our mind. A break may give you a new perspective or solution, or a way to figure how to keep going.

8. Take time for yourself with self care activities, including meditation

Self care and self love are pillars of strength for us, especially in difficult times. Remember to take care of your own needs first- be it emotional, physical, social, professional, psychological/mental, or spiritual. Mediation helps us look within and can heal us. 9. Be kind to yourself

Kindness is a trait to develop not only for others around us, but also for ourselves. Always be kind to yourself and forgive yourself for small mistakes you may make. Learn to love yourself through acceptance and kindness.

10. Find new hobbies

Keep yourself busy and entertained by pursuing new hobbies. Research shows that people with hobbies are less likely to suffer from stress, low mood, and depression. Taking a break and keeping your mind occupied with something you enjoy can lead to endurance and the strength to keep going even when situations are tough and may be out of your control.

11. Journal or have someone to talk to

Journaling or jotting your thoughts down on a regular basis is very helpful as it helps reduce your stress and anxiety, and helps you learn from your past experiences. In addition, having someone to talk to, that you feel confident to confide in and share, can be a good outlet for anything on your mind.

I concur. Especially taking life one step at a time, taking breaks and being kind to one’s self. Let me also add that it does a whole lot of good when one isn’t comparing themselves to others.

All these strategies are powerful, especially when combined. There is much to enjoy in life if we look for the beauty in nature and humanity.

Thanks for this piece of advice. We all have our shares of ups and downs. And giving up should not be on the list when we experience downfall. Like what you said, get back up. This too shall pass.

Love this post and a great reminder for all. I do believe in the power of a positive mindset and always try to wake up appreciate of my life and loving for things that I am grateful for as it gets me into the right ‘postive’ outlook for the day.
