Spring forward with hope and positivity

Dear readers, the daylight saving time arrived last month and we have sprung forward an hour. It was also the weekend we welcomed Spring Break for a week. As an educator, I look forward to this break to relax and spend quality time with family. This year with my older one visiting from college and us all being off at the same time, we had 9 days of restful staycation. We visited the Houston Rodeo and did an Escape Room activity as the only 2 outside the house activity, and had a very relaxing and well deserved break.

Spring is the perfect time for change/growth and I look forward to a wonderful Spring season. I wish and hope you all have had a great start to the season. Today’s post is about welcoming spring and getting ready for summer, so read on.

Introduction:

In the northern hemisphere, first day of spring was on Tuesday, March 19th.  Also called spring equinox, March equinox, or Vernal equinox, this is the day the Sun crosses the celestial equator going from the south to the north. It’s called the “celestial” equator because it is an imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator. The Spring season ends on June 20th, which is a Thursday this year. Meteorologically speaking, the official first day of spring is March 1 (and the last is May 31). Spring is my favorite season although I love summer too due to the 2 months+ summer break as well as my older one’s birthday and our wedding anniversary in June. My husband’s birthday is in the last week of March and my younger one’s in middle of April, so those are two extra reasons for me to enjoy the Spring time!

Spring is all about growing yourself and having a new start. So if you are one of the people reading this who is stuck and wants a change, read below my 5 tips to rejuvenate yourself.

5 tips to welcome spring

  1. Try a hobby

It is a beautiful time of the year with flowers blooming and birds chirping, and trees coming back to life and temperatures in the mild. With longer days, it is a great time to pursue a hobby. Depending on your interest, you can try gardening, swimming, golf or any outdoor activity. Remember anything done in the leisure for the sake of pleasure is a hobby. Try something new or get back to something you miss or haven’t done in long time. I am sure it will bring a little joy your way.

2. Spring cleaning

Most of you may have heard of spring cleaning. This is the time where deep cleaning is done, which may reduce chances of allergies if you are prone. It is believed that during the 19th century in America, this was the best time for dusting because it was getting warm enough to open windows and doors (but not warm enough for insects to be a problem), and the high winds could carry the dust out of the house. So if you have some spare time on hand or are motivated enough, go for a spring cleaning.

3. Work on yourself

Any season is a good season and reason to work on yourself. It could be similar to having a resolution or pledge or a promise to yourself to get better at something. You could learn to improve yourself by reading a self help book, better your skin care routine, start or modify a self care routine, learn to cook a cuisine, learn a new language, improve your social circle, or get a certification. There are many options, and you chose the one you want to improve in your life.

4. Take it slow

Taking moments to pause for a moment, enjoy the present and being mindful are all great ways to slow your life and de-stress yourself. Learn strategies to take care of your body and mind, whether it is journaling, exercising, meditation, yoga, eating right, practicing kindness, or spending more quality time with someone you love, embracing a new habit can bring balance and a positive change in your life.

5. Love yourself

It is always the right time to start loving yourself for who you are with all your flaws and virtues. It is definitely easier said than done, but this is a powerful self care practice that all of us need to pay attention to. Be kind to yourself and take out time every day to self reflect. Use self affirmations or read motivational books, and know that you are enough. Surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you, and be alone if that’s important and helpful to you. Find ways to pamper and love yourself, and start now!
